Costs: Public coach/ bus from Split airport to Split port is 30 Kuna approximately £4.00 and can be bought on the Bus at Split Airport. From the bus ticket office at Split port

Finding the public bus: When leaving Split airport cross over the road and look to your left. (Do not walk down the stairs to the lower level public car park and taxi parking.) The public bus service uses large coaches, and they are normally parked up on the road to the left of the airport exit / entrance. (The airport is being extended, and is currently quite small.) Extensive work is being undertaken to expand the airport terminal, at some point the public bus pick up point may change.

Note: the public bus can take up to 15 minutes to fill up and leave. If in a hurry to catch a specific Ferry it is recommended that you take a taxi, (pre-booked is cheaper) or plan your schedule to allow at least 1 hr to reach the port.

Bus website here

As a rule of thumb the bus leaves the airport approximately 30 minutes after the arrival of a scheduled flight.

Return to Split Airport
The public bus departs once per hour, on the hour. Therefore if you have just missed one of the buses, you may have a 45 minute wait for the next bus. We recommend buying a bus ticket from the bust station ticket office once you arrive. So to guarantee a seat.

On a Saturday evening the 6pm bus takes a little time to fill up. But the 7pm bus fills up swiftly and people have been known to have to stand. If travelling after 5pm we would recommend purchasing your ticket a few hours before you decide to travel. Or try to arrive at the bus ticket office at least 15 minutes before the scheduled departure time.

Your cases will need to be placed in the baggage area under the bus / coach. So carry a small shoulder bag for your essentials. It will not be possible to fit cabin baggage wheelie cases on seats of the bus unless purchasing an empty seat to place a bag.

Taxi transfers from Split airport to Split port.
The fastest we have made this trip so far is in 35 minutes (once in a taxi.) Pre booked taxi’s are normally cheaper. Approximately 28 to 35 Euros for 1 to 3 people.

Airport, ferry travel and luggage – TIPS

Spilt airport is currently being expanded. Work is due to be completed sometime in 2019 but an exact date has not been set. If arriving at the airport early there is a restaurant upstairs at the airport before you pass through the security and departure area. At present the departure lounge has duty free shop, and two bars selling drinks and sandwiches but no restaurant.

During the high season the Ferry’s become very busy and can run late. During May and October they rarely fill up, have plenty of seating and seem to run on time. Allow some extra time for your return trip.

When boarding the Catamaran all of your cases have to be stored near the front door, we recommend having a small bag packed in your luggage to put any valuables into, so to keep items with you.

The Catamaran has a metal ramp to walk up. If traveling with a large case it is sometimes helpful to collaborate with fellow travellers to ensure a safe boarding.

On the ferry there is an up escalator to the passenger deck but when departing stairs down. If travelling with heavy cases, there is space down on the car deck to put large cases against the wall of the ferry and not take the up to the seating deck. But do keep your valuables on you. As there are no lockers for cases, and so although it is possible to leave a case on the car deck, it is important to collect cases before the Ferry docks.

There are toilets and a bar on both the Catamaran and the ferry, and it is possible to move around easily. The Ferry is a much larger vessel and smoother. The Catamaran smaller, but fast, and quite smooth.

Note if the weather is a little up and down, the Catamaran is sometimes cancelled, however there is a Ferry that runs 30 minutes after the designated Catamaran time from Split to Supetar. And a coach / bus is laid on from Bol back to Supetar if the Catamaran is cancelled. For independent travellers the hotel reception staff can telephone on the morning of your travel to check if the Catamaran is running.

If on your return journey you are not flying home until the evening, but wish to take the Catamaran on Saturday or Sunday lunch time, to then spend a few hours exploring historic parts of Split port, there are baggage storage companies near to the bus station.

During October and May sudden rain showers do occur, (but usually clear up swiftly.) It is advisable when travelling, to carry a light weight rain coat or umbrella.
